Sudanese refugees fleeing the ongoing conflict have appealed to the South Sudanese government and international partners for critical assistance in education, healthcare, and telecommunications.

Now residing in Makpandu Camp, Bangasu Payam, Yambio, Western Equatoria State, the refugees expressed their appreciation for the current humanitarian aid but highlighted ongoing challenges, especially in education and communication.

Speaking to Alhuriya journalist Mr Ahmed Abdu refugee in Makpandu Camp, spoke about the devastating impact of the conflict, including the loss of life and property, and the struggle to stay connected with loved ones due to limited access to airtime and communication devices.

He expressed gratitude for the non-food items provided by UNHCR but called for additional support in communication and education.

Nigib, another refugee, emphasized the need for educational opportunities for children and youth in the camp. He called on the government and partners to provide scholarships and establish schools, ensuring that children can continue their studies. Fatina Muhammad Umar, a refugee with a teaching background, also urged local authorities to employ qualified refugees to teach in schools, contributing to the education sector.

Paulino Zizi Bugwa, the Commissioner for Refugee Affairs, reported that 1,435 refugees have settled in Yambio, with around 120 arriving daily. He underscored the growing demand for resources as more people flee the violence in Sudan.
