In a bold move to safeguard public health and ensure consumer safety, the Eastern Equatoria State Government, through the Ministry of Trade and Investment and the National Bureau of Standards, recently conducted a joint operation to dispose of expired goods from markets in Torit, Magwi, and Nimule towns.
Governor Louis Lobong Lojore of Eastern Equatoria State issued a stern warning to traders found selling expired goods, emphasizing that such practices pose a significant risk to consumers. Governor Louis highlighted that traders caught selling expired products would face severe consequences, including the revocation of their trading permits. He stressed that the state government would not tolerate the sale of harmful and expired goods within its jurisdiction.
Governor Louis directed the Ministry of Trade and Investment, in collaboration with security agencies, to establish appropriate measures and penalties for those found in possession of expired products. The governor’s directive aims to deter unscrupulous traders from engaging in deceptive practices that endanger public health.
In response to the crackdown on expired goods, Hon. Ruth Vuga, the Minister of Trade and Investment, emphasized the importance of prioritizing public health and consumer protection. Minister Vuga urged traders to uphold ethical standards in their business operations and prioritize the well-being of consumers. She commended the collaborative efforts between the state government and the National Bureau of Standards in identifying and addressing the sale of expired goods.
